On July 3rd local residents noticed many dead and dying fish in the brook at the west end of Hilly Fields and that the water was dark brown with a burning smell. Together with Environment Agency staff many struggling fish were relocated to a less polluted section of the river. The Environment Agency discovered the cause to be run-off from a fire at Rectory Farm and have since been using aerating pumps to help restore oxygen levels in the river.
